Public Speaking Tip: How “Win” An Argument

by Lily Iatridis on February 5, 2010

Where’s the victory in “winning” an argument when the opposing side has ill will toward you– when you’ve simply won by being the loudest or most argumentative individual, or by simply getting in the last word?
A true win is one where you’re able to make your audience understand and relate to your position.  In other words, make them see your point of view.  Fight the temptation to be combative.  Instead, explain the reasoning and thought process that led to your position on the subject at hand in a respectful manner, and you’ll be more likely to win them over to your side.
