Contingency Plans for Public Speakers

by Lily Iatridis on February 5, 2010

No matter how brilliant a presentation you’ve prepared, be sure that you are prepared with at least one, or better yet, two contingency plans should something unexpected happen.  For example, equipment failure is a frequent last minute problems to occur in presenting.  Therefore, contingency Plan B must be to be fully prepared to present without any visuals whatsoever.
Another contingency plan suggestion:  if there are any food or drinks involved in the event I suggest having a quick change of clothing nearby, or carry one of those small quick stain remover sticks in your bag.  It’s pretty embarrassing to have to get onstage when you’ve got a big stain in the middle of your shirt.  And by the way, have a toothbrush and toothpaste on hand for a quick brush in the restroom before you go on stage!
