Public Speaking Tip: Make a Decision About Fear

by Lily Iatridis on February 5, 2010

How do you learn to be fearless when you get up in front of a group to speak?  Here’s a hint: waiting for the fear to disappear first is the equivalent of putting the cart before the horse.  In order to learn to overcome a fear, a person must make the decision to do exactly what they fear - repeatedly.  Only by facing our fears do they shrink to nothing.
So don’t wait to commit to a public speaking engagement because you’re afraid.  Make the decision to speak publicly now, and keep on doing so as frequently as possible to eliminate your fear as quickly as possible.  Once the committed decision is made, your fears of public speaking soon will end.
